The Face of Homelessness

I am the face of homelessness. Please don't judge me because of this. My guilt that I carry daily is enough. Just because I reside in a public place has nothing to do with my character as a person. Do not assume that because I'm homeless, that I am lazy. The humiliation that I have endured since becoming homeless is something that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I choose not to allow this journey that I am on to make me angry. All that I have endured has only made me stronger, kinder, and wiser. I tell my children that if being homeless is the worst that they have to endure, the rest of their lives will be a piece of cake. In your eyes I'm seen as a lazy nobody, simply because I'm homeless. It doesn't matter that I'm a Christian who takes great care of her children. I just happen to be a single mom of four angels who is homeless. I'm still loving, caring, and kindhearted. Does it matter that I'm educated and not a criminal. I used to have the things that you have too, just because my things were taken from me, shouldn't matter about how I'm treated.

The Center for the Homeless needs your help!

Volunteers from the community are the lifeblood of the Center - they outnumber our paid staff members 10 to 1, putting in an average total of 60,000 hours annually. Interested in getting involved at the Center on a regular basis?  We have a wide range of volunteer placements and we ask that everyone attend an orientation and training session held here.  During that time we'll go over the scope of services we offer, the mechanics of our programs, and the available placements we have.

Future Volunteer Orientation Dates:

6:00 - 7:30 p.m 

 

 

Current Critical Volunteer needs

 

 Adult Basic Education:Friday 10:30-Noon Computer Assistant for computer instructor.

 Adult Basic Education: Wednesday 1:00pm-4:00pm Reading Assistant for reading instructor

 Early Childhood Development Center:       

Monday-Friday 8:30am-12:30pm 

Monday-Friday 12:30pm-3:00pm

Monday-Friday 2:30pm-5:30pm
